Making the Transition: "A Parent's Learning to Introducing Solids"

As I have mentioned in my previous breastfeeding blog  babies demand and communicate that they are ready to take solids around 180 days. We don't need to stick to the completion of 6 months. It will be around 170-190 days. Please listen to your baby and then start. When to Start: Understanding the Signs of Readiness for Solid Foods 1. Baby will be able to sit in a tripod position (with their hand support) for at least a few mins 2. Baby will show interest in food while you are eating 3. Baby will have hand-mouth coordination To read more about readiness in detail  https://solidstarts.com/readiness/ How to introduce it?  When giving solids, the baby must always be in an upright position. You should not make them flat and give. A high chair will be extremely useful. I purchased one from baby hug in the first cry. You can start 30-45mins after feeding. So that baby will be eager to explore and taste new foods. When they are hungry, they will be cranky and won't like to explo...

0 - 6 months

Babies are very intelligent, nothing surprising but that's how the human race has become so successful. They have every instinct to stay healthy and get help whenever needed. Your babies will let you know whenever they have a problem like dumb charades.  Cluster Feeding  Your baby may be crankier in the evenings and need more feeding within short intervals like 30mins.  Please understand t his is completely normal and does not mean your milk is not sufficient for the baby. Growth Spurts Growth spurts may cause your baby to nurse for longer periods of time and more frequently. But this will last only for a few days.   Please don't confuse g rowth spurts  also with your milk supply.  To know more about cluster feeding and growth spurts:  https://wicbreastfeeding.fns.usda.gov/cluster-feeding-and-growth-spurts Then how to find our milk is sufficient? If the baby has a urine count greater than 6 and is active and their weight gain is good. Yo...

My breastfeeding journey

As I mentioned earlier I was totally blank about breastfeeding until she was born. So the struggle started from day 1. She was taking feed for more than an hour, and the interval between two feeds was also very minimum i.e 30-45mins. I was totally exhausted to sit and feed that much time with sleepless nights after delivery. Luckily a nurse noticed and found my breast engorged. She said, “Baby is sucking but she is not getting milk as your breasts are this hard. She is getting tired, sleeping, and crying again out of hunger and this is repeating". With her assistance, pumped out some milk and fed the baby, and then she slept peacefully. But the problem did not end there. Nipple cracks developed within two days of the hospital stay itself. Too much pain during the initial latch. I tolerated and fed, but because of continuous sucking, it got worse every day. The doctor suggested nip care ointment, few of my friends suggested coconut oil, butter, ghee, and all. Unfortunately, nothing...

Hi, I am Dhanuprasanya, the mother of a 8-month-old baby girl. I am starting this blog to help new moms by sharing my own experience, the knowledge I have gained from my daughter’s pediatrician, and the experience of a few other moms.  What made me do this? When I found myself pregnant, I was happy and excited, at the same time, I was afraid about labor. I never gave a thought beyond it. The whole pregnancy period went by learning about labor management and finally the day came. When she was born the first thing that came to my mind was “yes I did it, and that's it”, but to my surprise, the real journey started from there onwards. I was completely blank about breastfeeding and how to handle newborns. Lots and lots of doubt in everything she does. I had an opportunity to connect with her pediatrician and a few moms through the WhatsApp group which was created at the hospital. It was such a blessing. All my doubts were cleared instantly. Eventually, the group started growing and the ...

Breastfeeding

Breastfeeding Exclusive breastfeeding is the norm. Exclusive breastfeeding has its own benefits. 6 months is not a magic number. Babies don't have numbers. But we believe that nature's designs are perfect, so breastfeed as long as possible and start food when the baby demands and they definitely communicate by that 6 months that they want food People ask doctors why not cow milk, why not give ragi, why not give gripe water, why not give apple juice, Because they have learned not from a single child or example but from an entire generation that tried all these and is now facing a lot of medical illnesses.  Our elders are definitely saying everything for our well-being. But the fact is they don't have an opportunity like us to learn these things at that time. I am sure, if they were aware of these facts, they never gave cow's milk/purees to any child previously. So please educate yourself before making any judgments.  Please read the description below the attached reels f...
